Two Richmond women, one in her 50s and one in her 40s, have been charged with running an illegal gaming house in a city centre apartment.
The pair was allegedly caught running the operation from an apartment in the 5500-block of Cooney Road, between Ackroyd and Lansdowne roads, two years ago.
B.C.’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) revealed on Thursday that Jian Rong, 54, and Kuo Li Wong, 44, are facing multiple charges and will appear in court at a later date.
Several charges laid
Rong is charged with keeping a gaming or betting house, possession of property obtained by crime, while Wong is also charged with keeping a gaming or betting house, as well as possession of the proceeds of crime and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Officers identified suspected activity at the apartment in June of 2021, before executing a search warrant in August of that year.
The search, according to police, revealed “activity, products and patrons consistent with an illegal gaming house.”
“Illegal gaming, and the locations that facilitate them, have been the root of other criminal offences that impact the safety of the public,” said Sgt. Brenda Winpenny, CFSEU media relations officer.
