Update: Blundell overpass on Highway 99 struck by pre-fab house being moved

Traffic is heavy on the highway and drivers are asked to monitor Drive BC for detours.

A pre-fabricated home that was being carried by a tractor-trailer struck the Blundell overpass Wednesday morning (March 19), is causing "major traffic disruptions" for the afternoon commute, according to BC Highway Patrol.

At 3 p.m., BC Highway Patrol said it was still working with the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) to investigate an overpass strike .

The strike was reported at 9:45 a.m. southbound on Highway 99 at the Blundell Road overpass in Richmond.

A pilot vehicle that was following the tractor-trailer was damaged when the over-height load of lumber fell off the trailer and hit the pilot vehicle’s windshield, said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol.

The tractor-trailer stopped at the scene. The driver and the company involved will be investigated.

Traffic in the area is heavy and drivers are asked to monitor www.DriveBC.ca for detours and to learn when the roadway will be clear.

According to BC Highway Patrol, there were no injuries and no visible damage to the overpass. However, inspectors will take a closer look to ensure it's safe.
