UPDATE: Courthouse evacuated after threat phoned in

Police probing source of call to 9-1-1
court

Richmond RCMP are still investigating the source of a threatening phone call to 911 on Thursday, which led to the city's courthouse being evacuated and cordoned off for several blocks.

Cpl. Stephanie Ashton said a call was received around 1 p.m. and deemed credible enough to have the building, and several businesses in the immediate area, cleared.

A bomb sniffing dog was tasked to check out the building, but the area wasn't declared safe until about six hours later at 7 p.m.

To keep the wheels of justice rolling during the delay, the RCMP parked its mobile command centre — a specially equipped RV — a couple of blocks away from the scene where it served as a temporary courtroom to take care of some procedural matters.
