The last couple of stripes of Richmond's rainbow crosswalk were being painted at about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Crews started work around 4 p.m., with the painting of the controversial rainbow crosswalk expected to finish shortly before sunrise.
The work began on Minoru Boulevard, just north of Granville Avenue.
Last month, Richmond City Council voted almost unanimously - only Coun. Chak Au voted against - to paint the LGBTQ2S symbol on Minoru Boulevard, opposite Richmond Public Library, in time for Pride Week celebrations on July 27.
The crosswalk stirred up controversy in the city, with many residents publicly objecting, citing safety concerns, lack of consultation, the $15,000 price tag and disharmony in an attempt to convince councillors to halt the rainbow.
