Update: Police name victim in Richmond’s third homicide

Francis Le, 24, was found in Richmond Hospital parking lot on Friday night before dying of stab wounds

Richmond recorded its third homicide of the year on Friday, after a man died in hospital from stab wounds.

On Monday afternoon, homicide investigators named the victim as 24-year-old Francis Le, of Surrey.

Shortly before midnight on Friday, Jan. 27, Mounties were called to Richmond Hospital after a report of an unresponsive male in the parking lot.

When the officers got there, the man was found to be suffering from “injuries consistent with foul play.”

According to police, despite the best efforts of doctors, the man succumbed to his injuries and his death is considered a homicide.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has now taken over the investigation.

IHIT said Monday that Le's murder does not appear to be related to the two previous homicides that occurred in Richmond earlier this month.

They are working closely with the Richmond RCMP to determine what events led up to the stabbing and to determine where the stabbing took place.

“It is still early in the investigation and, as the motive and offence location remain unknown, investigators are asking anyone with information to contact IHIT,” said Cpl. Meghan Foster, of IHIT.

“It cannot be stressed enough that, should one choose to associate themselves with a criminal lifestyle, they are not immune to the dangers and risks that come with it.”

Anyone with information regarding this investigation should contact the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at [email protected].

Should you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
