Update: Two victims of Richmond crash released from hospital

However, the driver of the BMW, crushed after colliding with a truck Tuesday morning, remains in hospital.

Some good news is, at last, emerging from the two fatal accidents on Richmond’s roads in the space of 17 hours earlier this week.

One of the passengers in the BMW - crushed after colliding with a truck at No. 4 Road and Westminster Highway on Tuesday morning – and the truck driver have been released from hospital.

However, Richmond RCMP told the Richmond News on Wednesday afternoon that the driver of the BMW remains in hospital.

Police added that the other passenger in the BMW, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was a 26-year-old man from Richmond. His name is not being released.

Drugs and alcohol, say police, do not appear to have been factors, however, speed and driver inattention have not yet been ruled out.

As for the fatal accident Monday afternoon at Alderbridge Way and No. 3 Road, police have revealed that the deceased driver of the Honda SUV which collided with a school bus was a 70-year-old man from Richmond.

Again, out of respect for the family, his name is not being released at this time.

Richmond RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team continues to investigate both collisions, which are still under investigation.

Police have reiterated their appeal for dashcam footage and witnesses. Anyone who can help with either investigation is asked to call the Richmond RCMP non-emergency line at 604-278-1212.
