Flight out of YVR delayed? Relax. You’re in one of the Most Impressive Airports in the World.
Vancouver International Airport (YVR) was just ranked 30th out of 30 by Popular Mechanics, as they endeavour to let travellers know the best airports for captive audiences.
The only Canadian airport to make the roundup, Vancouver may come in last, but on a list like this, that’s certainly not saying we’re the least when it comes to being a pretty decent place for a layover.
Here’s what Popular Mechanics has to say about YVR:
“While YVR trails Toronto’s Pearson Airport for the busiest in Canada, the location on Sea Island in Richmond, B.C., south of Vancouver, gives Vancouver International a unique distinction of resting on an island outside of the downtown area. It also allows YVR to host a floatplane terminal, along with the largest collection of Northwest Coast Native art in the world and two exhibits from the Vancouver Aquarium (including jellyfish).”
Other things YVR has: Adorable service puppies, free feminine hygiene products, Steven Tyler’s temporary graffiti, their own line of socks, a good sense of humour, and free WiFi. We’ve also heard that on Sunday evenings, it’s the best place in Metro Vancouver for celebrity-spotting.
The number one Most Impressive Airport in the World, by the way, according to Popular Mechanics: Madeira Airport, Portugal. You’ll find the whole list in slideshow format here.
