Richmond RCMP is searching for witnesses and video evidence of a violent incident that caused massive traffic delays on Wednesday afternoon.
According to RCMP, officers responded to reports of an "irate male" who was "throwing a compressed air tank at vehicles and threatening bystanders" near the on-ramp to Highway 99 at Steveston Highway around 4 p.m.
"Upon arrival, frontline officers encountered an extremely irate man who threatened to use the metal tank as a weapon against them," said Cpl. Ian Henderson, Richmond RCMP spokesperson.
Henderson said that the 56-year-old Richmond man was apprehended under Section 28 of the Mental Health Act and sent to a local hospital. Investigation is ongoing and criminal charges may be considered at a later date.
