The Richmond Museum has just launched a new interactive website.

Do you want to learn about the history of Scotch Pond in Garry Point Park, take a tour of the Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh Temple or learn about Spam?

The Richmond Museum has launched a new website that gives virtual tours and informational videos about the history of Richmond and Asian culture.

The website, launched in September, has been designed to be interactive, so users can click into different areas.

The “Collections” section links to the museum’s database which has 20,000 artifacts. The search function allows users to look for artifacts based on a specific subject.

The Timeline section shows photos and gives a brief history of key moments in Richmond’s history.

The short videos – in the Theatre section - about the history and culture of the city include introductions to Sikh, Islamic and Buddhist temples, the history of multiculturalism in Steveston with an interview with Harold Steves, the history of Sea Island, the history of Spam and other culinary delights, and more.

The museum plans to add more videos in the coming months about the history of Richmond.

In the Walking Tours section, users can find maps with points of interest they can explore on their own throughout Richmond to learn about the city’s history.

The website also has pop-up quizzes and historical photos and timelines.

Its latest exhibit is Turning Points, which shows important dates – with photos – in Richmond’s history.

The website also has information about their programs and events.

The new Richmond Museum website is at RichmondMuseum.ca.
