The Lower Mainland Green Team is returning to Richmond for another volunteering activity on Sept. 18, this time at Garry Point Park.
Much like their previous event at Terra Nova Park in April, volunteers will be restoring local habitat by removing invasive plants like Himalayan blackberries and Scotch brooms, as well as cleaning up beach litter.
Through this activity, volunteers can "learn about local environmental issues and how to address them," and connect with community members. They can also improve their mental and physical health by being in nature and getting some exercise in.
Gloves, tools, instructions and refreshments will be provided, and participants are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles and wear clothes they don't mind getting dirty.
Volunteers will meet at 9:45 a.m. at Garry Point Park on Sunday and volunteer until 1 p.m.
The event is funded by the city's Environmental Enhancement Grant and organized with the city's directions.
Details and registration are available on the Meetup page. First-time Green Team volunteers are required to register as a volunteer ahead of time.
