World Cup Party in Richmond with Uruguay, Bosnia, Spain

Steveston merchants will celebrate an adopted World Cup nation, with Prickly Pear (Uruguay), Bosnia (Shady Island) and Spain (Best Dressed by C) all making a day of it

Prickly Pear has its Uruguay National Day on July 5 with a free raffle for some Uruguayan plant pots and a BBQ out front.

Shady Island Seafood Bar and Grill hosts Bosnia Day on July 6 by serving Bosnian kebabs with naan and drinks specials.

On July 8, Best Dressed by C looks set to host the party of the week with Spanish flamenco dancers on stage outside the store at 3 p.m.; big sales all day and a classical guitarist, wine and tapas 6 -9 p.m. (hosted at Bean and Beyond Cafe at $15/ticket)

A last-minute venue change for Steveston World Cup Village’s finale will see the party head to "Brazil."

The final two days of the five-week long party — Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13 — were to be held at ANAF 284 on No. 1 Road.

However, due to unforeseen circumstances, the two-day party, featuring live screenings from Brazil of the third and fourth place play-off game on Saturday and the World Cup Final on Sunday, will now be hosted at the Buck and Ear pub on Third Avenue.

The Buck is, rather appropriately, the unofficial Brazil Pavilion for the duration of the village's festival.

Tickets, costing $25, will be on sale at Bean and Beyond Café and at the Buck and Ear, with a grand prize of a return trip for two within B.C., courtesy of Pacific Coastal Airlines on offer.

Thirty-two businesses and organizations in Steveston have adopted a nation for the World Cup of soccer and are hosting a National Day each day.
