A young Richmond bowler won silver at the 2024 Canadian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships in Richmond last weekend.
Ten-year-old Zander Seng competed in the tournament from May 16 to 19 at the Richmond's Splitsville Riverport Bowling Centre.
As the youngest bowler at the event, he said he "didn't expect much" and wanted to take the opportunity to make new friends and learn from gold medalists from other provinces.
"I was really nervous at first because after six games I was in a three-way tie-breaker," said Seng.
"I had four points, which is four wins (and) two losses so I needed to win both of my opponents to win second (place), which is the highest I could achieve given the circumstances."
Not only did Seng medal in the competition, he was also voted as the recipient of the Ivan Nelson Memorial Sportsmanship Award — a $250 scholarship award.
The award is voted on by competing athletes at the Canadian Youth Championships.
"(I) couldn't believe that so many of them voted for me for the sportsmanship award," said Seng.
In March, Seng won gold at the 2024 Provincial Youth Championship, also held at Splitsville Richmond Riverport.
