There was plenty of local success on the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s (MJT) latest round, played out of the Golden Eagle Golf Club in Pitt Meadows.
More than 100 top junior golfers from across B.C. competed in the cold, wet weather, including Richmond’s Quilchena-based pair Tina Jiang and Aidan Liu, who won their respective age groups.
Tina, 17, shot a 77 and a 72 to card a total of 149, beating Burnaby’s Ling Hao by a single stroke.
As a result, she won the MJT Girls 15-19 title along with Low Overall Girls Champion, and earned an AJGA PBE Star.
Aidan, 13, meanwhile, carded a 73 and 77 for a total of 150 to take the MJT Bantam Boys prize, beating Surrey’s Sukhraj Singh Gill by a single stroke.
The Richmond pair has now qualified for their respective age groups at the prestigious FCG Callaway World Championships in California in July.
Mathew Wilson, 15, of Nanaimo, fired rounds of 72 and 71 (143), en route to being crowned MJT Juvenile and Low Overall Boys Champion at Golden Eagle.
The next event on the MJT BC Junior Tour is the Chad Hippsley Real Estate Classic, at Morgan Creek Golf Course in South Surrey.
