Four people die in Richmond in July of toxic drugs

Grim statistics from the BC Coroners office revealed that four people died in July in Richmond of suspected toxic drug poisonings.

This brings the death toll in Richmond to 14 in 2024 so far.

While the percentage of people who were victims of the toxic drug supply has gone down this year across the province, statistics show numbers are not abating in Richmond. In 2023, 27 people died in the city.

Across B.C., there were 192 deaths from toxic drugs in July, according to the B.C. coroner.

Richmond Fire-Rescue responded to nine outdoor and four indoor suspected opioid overdoses/drug poisonings in June (the latest statistics available).

According to the B.C. coroner, 84 per cent of toxicology reports show the presence of fentanyl.
