The Delta Ice Hawks and Richmond Sockeyes had some extra time to think about their Tunnel Cup series game Tuesday night at the Ladner Leisure Centre.
The game was delayed almost two hours after the Zamboni died partway through the ice clean following pre-game warm-ups.
Ice Hawks' players Bradley Fortin, Nick Marsh, Callum MacDonald and Dillon Maher helped push the Zamboni off the ice while coaches from both teams and arena staff decided on a course of action.
A technician was called and he arrived at the LLC just after 8:30 p.m. – a full hour after the scheduled 7:30 p.m. face-off.
He promptly fixed the machine and the ice clean was done shortly after 9 p.m.
The teams had a five-minute warm-up and the game started around 9:10 p.m.
In the early going, Delta’s legs looked like they were still in the dressing room as they fell behind 2-0 and 3-1 after the first period. But the home-side regrouped and fought back for an impressive 6-4 win to all but lock up second place in their conference.
Delta now has an eight-point lead over third-place Richmond.
