Four Richmond skaters are taking part in the Skate Canada Next Gen Competition and Camp this week.

Connaught Skating Club’s Angelina Guan, William Chan, Davey Howes and David Li will be competing in Ottawa for the event from July 20 to 24.

The competition is for junior skaters who are aiming for the 2030 Olympic cycle and were selected based on their 2023 season results.

Sixteen-year-old Howes said he is looking forward to competing with other skaters at a national level.

“My goal for this competition is to handle the pressure of being with such strong skaters at (the) NextGen level,” said Howes.

“Since it is an early nationals type event, I am looking forward to seeing where others are as it will be interesting.”

Meanwhile, skaters Chan and Guan expressed anticipation for the event, having prepared for it for a while.

Performances at this event will partially determine skaters’ changes to represent Canada at the ISU Junior Grand Prix Circuit.
