A Richmond-based artistic swimming club is holding free sessions next month for those interested in trying out the sport after watching the Paris Olympics.
On Aug. 10 and 11, Richmond kids aged six or above can join Pacific Wave Artistic Swim Club's free 45-minute try-it sessions and three-hour beginner classes in Watermania.
To participate in the free experiences, kids must be able to swim 50 metres unassisted in the deep end. The 45-minute sessions offer an introductory experience while the three-hour class will teach participants basic artistic swimming skills based on their skill levels in a relaxed recreational setting.
Each newcomer will be given a free swim cap and nose clip.
"When you watch artistic swimming, everyone’s first thought is 'How do they do that?' This is an opportunity to find out and experience it yourself by learning the basic skills these amazing athletes use," explained Pacific Wave spokesperson Charmaine Chang.
"We want to increase awareness about artistic swimming and remove any barriers to Richmond youth who want to try a new fun sport."
One 45-minute try-it session will be held per day on Aug. 10 and 11 from 12:45 to 1:30 p.m., and two three-hour classes will be held per day on Aug. 10 and 11 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The free sessions will take place at Watermania at 14300 Entertainment Blvd.
