Kajaks' Sofia Varma-Vitug, a Richmond native, won three gold medals - in triple jump, long jump and the 100-metre sprint - and a bronze in the 200-metre sprint at a recent provincial track and field championship.
In total, Kajaks female athletes brought home eight gold medals and the men won five gold medals at this year’s BC Athletics Track and Field Championship Jamboree.
The event was held in Nanaimo from July 12 to 14, with more than 600 registrants and 40 participant clubs from across the province
Several other athletes from the Richmond-based track and field club were also awarded silver and bronze medals across different events.
