A new adaptive lacrosse program is coming to Richmond.

The Richmond Lacrosse Association is launching a new program to make the sport more inclusive this year.

The local organization is partnering with their friends at Lacrossing Barriers to include an adaptive lacrosse program, widening the sport for more people in the community.

Lacrossing Barriers, the adaptive lacrosse program, was first developed in 2018 by the Autism Aspergers Friendship Society of Calgary and has since grown.

Now, it is coming to Richmond for the first time with a 12-week session starting Jan. 25 and running until March 29.

Each session will be held on Saturdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Tomsett elementary.

Adam Blanchette, board president of Richmond Lacrosse, said they are looking to keep the program moving forward.

"I think it's important for people to be able to try and play Canada's national summer sport," said Blanchette.

"We want to give everyone from elite athletes to brand new players a chance to showcase their skills, have some fun and make new friends."

To sign up, visit the Lacrossing Barriers website or the Richmond Lacrosse Association website.
