The Richmond Sockeyes got trounced in their second game of the playoff series against the Delta Ice Hawks, losing 5-1.
The teams are now tied 1-1 after two games of the seven-game playoff series with game three scheduled for Thursday at Minoru Arena.
The Sockeyes started the seven-game series with a win on Monday night on home turf, beating their tunnel rivals 7-5.
Monday’s game began with Delta scoring, but by the end of the first period, the score was 2-2. The Sockeyes took the upper hand in the second period, which ended with a score of 4-3. The third period sealed the game for the Sockeyes in game one.
But, away from home ice at the Ladner Leisure Centre on Tuesday, the Sockeyes lost their second game of the series.
The second game saw little scoring from either side for the first two periods.
The Sockeyes’ Nicholas Noran scored the first goal of the game seven minutes into play – but this would be the only goal the Richmond team would manage against Delta on Tuesday.
Delta evened the score to 1-1 with a goal late in the second period.
But in the third period, Delta got four goals past the Richmond goaltender to end the game 5-1.
Five minutes into the third period, a 10-minute game misconduct was given to Sockeyes’ Matthew Stewart for a blow to the head.
Sockeyes playoff action continues Thursday evening at the Minoru Arena in game three of the series.
