Richmond FC U14 Strikers end summer with more silverware

The girls won the Coastal Cup and took silver at the provincials in Kamloops

Suffice to say, it has been a good summer for the Richmond FC U14 girls Strikers team.

The girls, who made it to the provincials last season, repeated the feat this year, this time coming home with a silver medal from the tournament in Kamloops.

Hot on the heels of winning the regional Coastal Cup, the Strikers headed to Kamloops full of confidence.

However, in the second last game, they had a mountain to climb and had to win by a daunting 11 goals to make it to the gold medal game.

At half time, though, they were 5-0 up and, incredibly, with two minutes to go they scored again to make it 11-0.

In the final, the girls were 2-0 down to host Kamloops Blaze but battled back to half the deficit and were on the ascendancy when the game had to be postponed due to thunder rolling in.

However, after a 25-minute break, it was decided the game couldn’t continue and Kamloops was declared the winner.

Despite the ending, the RFC girls stood and applauded the winners and took their silver medals with a big smile.
