Richmond Kajaks athletes medal at Jerome Classic, provincial championships

Athletes from a Richmond track club competed in two championships last weekend.

Last weekend was a busy one for a group of young Richmond athletes, who competed in two major track events.

On Saturday, June 15, Kajaks athletes impressed at the annual Jerome Track Classic held at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby.

Winning silver in the men's 2011 4x100m relay was Siddharth Kadatare, Kayden Tan, Oliver Ly and Armaan Varma-Vitug.

And in the men's 2013 4x100m relay, Welkin Sham, Ronin Shute, Jaan Chahal and Zachary Chan came third.

Kajaks athletes also shone at the BC Athletics Junior Development Pentathlon Championships held in Coquitlam on June 16.

The pentathlon championships were open to athletes born between 2011 and 2015 and featured five events: hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put and a distance run.

Seylah Bains came out on top in the Girls 10 Year Olds Outdoor Pentathlon, winning gold with combined points of 1,849.

Meanwhile, Dean Shergill, Amaan Varma-Vitug and Siddharth Kadatare brought home bronze medals for the boys outdoor pentathlon events for 10 year olds, 12 year olds and 13 year olds respectively.
