Nathan Hirayama has helped Canada's Sevens team qualify for the 2020 Olympic Summer Games in Tokyo.

Nathan Hirayama’s decorated rugby career will now include his first-ever Olympic Games.

The 31-year-old Richmond standout helped Canada’s Sevens team book its ticket to Tokyo next summer with a 40-5 win over Jamaica to complete a perfect run at the Rugby Americas North Sevens in the Cayman Islands last weekend. Canada outscored its opponents 293-15 in the process of winning six straight games.

Hirayama, who was Canada’s co-captain along with Harry Jones, scored a pair of tries in the championship game.

The McRoberts graduate and Richmond Rugby Club product has been playing at the senior national level since he was 20. He has played in four World Championships and two years ago became Canada’s all-time leading scorer.
