The Richmond Rockets sent seven short-track speed skaters to Fort St. John for the BC Long Track Speed Skating Championship and all seven returned with medals.
The medal haul from the Fort St. John competition included four golds.
“Congratulations to these amazing young athletes and their great job of representing Richmond,” said Rockets president Alexander Teh.
In the men’s 13-year-old division, Ethan Leung won the gold medal, and Alice Yaxuan Guo won silver in a close battle for first place in the women’s 12-year-old division.
Carly Bastien won gold in the women’s 11-year-old division and was a nominee for the Spirit Award in recognition of sportsmanship and contributions to the sport.
In the Club 9-10-year-old division, Skyler Jino Chu, Jayden Li and Anbo Wang swept the podium by winning gold, silver and bronze, respectively.
And in the Club 6-8-year-old division, Silas Jimmi Chu took home gold.
“We are so proud of our short-track specialists' efforts to represent Richmond and their success at the BC Long Track Championships. They have shown tremendous versatility and have validated the speed skating program in Richmond,” said Teh.
“We look forward to their further success at the Richmond Rockets Oval Challenge on Feb. 15 at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Everyone is welcome to watch and cheer for our local skaters.”
The Rockets were coached by Christopher Poljer-So, a former Richmond Rockets skater.
