The Richmond Tennis Club was happy to see the sun peak through in time for its Open House last Sunday.
Approximately 80 members and guests participated in social tennis and pickle ball at the club, located in the south west corner of Minoru Park.
Pickle ball ambassador, Peter Darvill and his crew gave a brief demo of this fast growing sport, then invited people to give it a try.
Coach Howie Jackson had his Gold Star juniors demonstrate progressive tennis.
The afternoon wrapped up with an exciting mixed doubles tennis match between nationally ranked Richmond residents: Pat Macken, Bill Wang, Renata Reid and Shiera Stuart.
President Kim Jensen welcomed Mayor Brodie, councillors Bill McNulty, Alexa Loo, Linda McPhail, Derek Dang, Chak Au, councillor candidate Andy Hobbs and trustee Jonathan Ho.
He thanked the City of Richmond for providing the land, the original courts and fencing for the club that started over 60 years ago.
“The first courts were on a lacrosse box at Brighouse Park at Granville and No. 3 Roads,” noted Jensen. “Shortly after we moved to our present location here in Minoru Park. The original clubhouse was the sales building for the subdivision just west of us. The current clubhouse was built in 2002. “
After having one of their most successful summer seasons in recent years, Richmond Tennis Club hopes to be an integral part of Minoru Park for years to come.
