Four Richmond volleyball teams returned from the provincial championships at the Tradex in Abbotsford on the weekend with gold medals.
The Air Attack Black 15U Girls won the Div. 3 gold title, while the club’s Black 15U Boys won Div. 1 gold, the Black 16U Girls won Div. 4 gold and the Gold 16U Boys grabbed the Div. 2 gold medal.
More than 180 girls and boys club volleyball teams (14U to 16U) from all over the province came to compete for medals in their respective divisions.
The aforementioned Air Attack Black 15U Girls went undefeated throughout the two-day event with victories over much taller opposition - two teams from Vernon (Sky Grey and Sky White), Kamloops (KVA Pack Black) and White Rock (Seaside Storm).
In the semi-finals against Sky White, Air Attack was losing 13-21 in the first set, before the girls scored nine consecutive rally points to take the lead at 22-21, eventually winning the first set 25-23.
The girls then edged the second set 25-22 to march onto the gold medal against the Seaside Storm from White Rock.
Air Attack proved too strong for their rivals, winning in straight sets (25-19 and 25-21).
