McMath Wildcats continued their dominant season by capturing the inaugural South Fraser Grade 9 Girls Volleyball Championship in Surrey last week.
The Wildcats headed to the tournament after winning the Richmond Juvenile Girls title in convincing fashion. They did not drop a single set to a city opponent — capped by a 3-0 win over the MacNeill Ravens in the title game.
That streak continued right up until the South Fraser title game when McMath prevailed 3-1 over the South Delta Sun Devils.
Madi Wong delivered excellent sets to her teammates and played exceptional defence. Marina Radocaj and Caitlin Kippan were unstoppable at the net with incredible kills and blocks to stop their opponents quick attacks. Radocaj received tournament MVP honours while Kippan was joined on the all-star team by Maya Zawislak.
The team is now preparing for the Grade 9 Provincial Championships — Nov. 22-23.
Coached by Tanya Kippan, the Wildcats roster also features: Anna Vorontsova, Olivia Cox, Amelia Spiteri, Madeline Fernie, Natasha Fahlman, Katie Flynn, Millie Montgomery, Madison Wong, Abby Young and Marley Goodhew.
The Ravens finished fourth with Scotia Chow earning all-star honours.
