Wildcats take aim at being best in B.C

The McMath Wildcats senior girls volleyball team is heading into Vancouver and District AAA senior girls volleyball playoffs with a full head of steam.

The McMath Wildcats senior girls volleyball team is heading into Vancouver and District AAA senior girls volleyball playoffs with a full head of steam.

The Wildcats clipped the Richmond Christian Eagles 3-0 last week to capture the Richmond championship and cap a perfect 8-0 run in city play.

The McMath win comes on the heels of a second place finish at the Riverside RCMP-Red Serge Classic Tournament in Port Coquitlam. The top ranked Wildcats were edged out by the No. 2 ranked host Riverside Rapids in the final.

Coach Rob Forbes said the calibre of play at the Red Serge Classic was good preparation for the team as it gets ready for the district playoffs and the upcoming provincial championships.

"The girls are playing well, supporting each other and working hard to get better every game and practice," he said. "I'm pleased with the team's accomplishments to date, but by no means can we get complacent as the provincials will be the biggest test of the season.

"We still have areas to improve in and we'll have to play our very best to succeed at provincials".

The Wildcats roster includes: Juliana Kaufmanis, Kristen Almhjell, Sydney Jensen, Rebecca Hansen, Amber Pomeroy, Katrina Tolentino, Natasha Magnus, Hilary Schaap, Danielle Kiss, Marta Gorgopa, and Katrina Tan. The coaching staff also features Gagan Mahal.
