Music Monday was a huge success on May 4 as Delta School District students and teachers marked the day with a musical salute to frontline workers.

The joy of music was on full display thanks to talented Delta high school students last week.

On Monday May 4, Delta School District students and teachers joined hundreds of thousands of children, youth, teachers, parents and community members across Canada for Music Monday.

North Delta’s Seaquam Secondary usually hosts its final Night of Music to mark this event. Instead, due to the physical distancing requirements currently in place as a result of COVID-19, staff and students decided to celebrate Music Monday by combining it with the 7 p.m. nightly salute to frontline workers, and invited others in the local community to join in.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for as many Delta students, families and local musicians as possible to play the Music Monday 2020 anthem, Hymn to Freedom, from their windows, porches, yards and driveways in support of our local healthcare heroes and other frontline workers,” said Jill Sparrow-Ng, Music teacher at Seaquam.

Music Monday is an annual event organized by The Coalition for Music Education in support of the importance of equitable access to quality music education for all students.
