Blue Jays third baseman Chapman named American League player of the week

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman has been named American League player of the week. Chapman led all AL hitters with 12 runs batted in, to go along with two home runs and a .464 batting average across six games.

Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman has been named American League player of the week. 

Chapman led all AL hitters with 12 runs batted in, to go along with two home runs and a .464 batting average across six games.

That included a five-RBI effort, including a grand slam homer, in Toronto's 12-11 series finale win against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday.

The 2019 all-star leads Major League Baseball with 19 hits and a .475 batting average on the season.

Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds was recognized as the National League player of the week. 

Reynolds had four homers and 12 RBI, while batting .480 across five games.
