John Horgan is once again thinking about the future of time, and wants to hear from British Columbians.

The B.C. government is launching an online survey on how time should be observed – whether the province should continue to alter time or permanently stay in daylight savings time.

“I know many people will have strong preferences on this complex question,” said the premier, “and this is an opportunity to express them and help the government decide our next steps.”

Currently, most of the province changes its clocks twice a year, “springing forward” into daylight savings or “falling back” in the fall.

But the change raises debate each year. In 2015, an online petition to abolish daylight savings in B.C. gained over 20,000 signatures.

Horgan previously wrote a letter to the governors of Oregon, Washington and California asking to be kept in the loop with any changes to the states’ legislation, as they move towards doing away with the bi-annual time change.

“As we monitor what’s happening in other jurisdictions, I look forward to input from British Columbians on how to set our clocks throughout the year,” said Horgan.

The survey will run from June 24 to July 29 and is available at Engage.Gov.BC.ca/DaylightSavingTime. Residents can also provide written submissions to [email protected]
