Column: New Richmond foodie offerings

Richmond News columnist Tony Kwan has checked out several new local restaurants.

It has been awhile since I have done a column on the Richmond food scene.

I have visited some exciting restaurants lately and I wanted to share my experience with readers.

Gordon Ramsay Steak

This highly anticipated restaurant recently opened at the River Rock Casino Resort.

The opening of this restaurant is quite a coup for Richmond as this is the only Gordon Ramsay Steak in Canada.

This restaurant takes upscale dining to a different level and, in the short time it has been open, it has already become the best upscale restaurant in Richmond.

Feature dishes include the wild mushroom risotto, roasted beef Wellington for two and the black forest trifle.

Of course, you cannot forget the steaks…my favourites are the 22-ounce AAA bone-in ribeye and the eight-ounce Snake River Farms Wagyu skirt steak. It is a special occasion restaurant with a magnificent bar. For my full review of this restaurant, click here.

Memory Corner Taiwanese Restaurant

If I had visitors from another country visiting me in Richmond, I would consider bringing them to this unique restaurant. The décor matches the Taiwanese street food that is served at the restaurant.

The restaurant is always busy and bustling.

Try their deep-fried crispy popcorn chicken or their tomato and beef brisket noodle soup.

Piping Hot and Big Weight Hot Pot

Near No. 3 and Ackroyd roads, foodies have a unique opportunity to try two value hot pot establishments that are about a minute’s walk away from each other.

These restaurant are the fast food version of hot pot, where you pick your own ingredients and pay based on the weight of your ingredients.

Then restaurant staff put all your ingredients into a personalized hot pot that is served to you at the table.

Try both of these restaurants to discover the differences between them and debate which one is better.

Haidilao Hot Pot

Staying on the theme of hot pot restaurants, Richmond is home to a Haidilao Hot Pot restaurant.

Haidailao Hot Pot originated from Sichuan, China, in 1994 and is a globally renowned Chinese restaurant chain, with locations in Burnaby and Vancouver as well.

It is hot pot for a youthful crowd, with secret code words that you say to staff for special bonus food items or surprises.

It is also features a rectangle-shaped hot pot where you can choose up to four different flavoured soups to use as your base to boil your ingredients.

Lanxuan Restaurant

This is a fairly new restaurant in Richmond.

The chief dim sum chef, Wei Lai, has won awards at the World Championships of Chinese Cuisine and was awarded the Dim Sum Chef of the Year at the 2024 Chinese Restaurant Awards.

For lunch, try the golden dried shrimp taro cake and their rose petal pastry dessert, which exemplifies the creativity of Chef Lai.

With Alaska King Crab season upon us, spot prawn season upcoming and the announcement that a new location for Miku restaurant will be opening at the River Rock Resort later this year, it will be a busy few months for Richmond foodies!

Until next time, happy eating!
