Letter: Time to ‘green’ barren Imperial Landing

Dear Editor, In the harsh afternoon summer sun, the barren concrete expanses of Steveston’s Imperial Landing appear more desolate than usual.
Imperial Landing
Steveston's boardwalk remains empty in 2014 as a result of zoning restrictions.

Dear Editor,

In the harsh afternoon summer sun, the barren concrete expanses of Steveston’s Imperial Landing appear more desolate than usual.

Perhaps the city and the development company responsible for this eyesore could incorporate into any future rezoning agreement a commitment from the company to create a more park-like setting for the south side of the building structures in this complex. More greenery would certainly fit in with and enhance the plantings that already exist along the riverfront. In addition, some of the added shrubs and trees could come from the properties of homeowners who want to remove them to create larger driveways. In this way, this valuable foliage can be preserved and put to good use instead of being ground into mulch.
