Letters: Cancellation of Steveston fireworks an 'utter disappointment'

A Richmond News reader had enjoyed last year's fireworks display at the Steveston Salmon Festival.

Dear Editor,

Re: "Fireworks replaced by live music grand finale at Steveston Salmon Festival"

I am writing to express my disappointment in the cancellation of this year's fireworks display in Steveston. We had been raving about last year's fireworks display and what a fun evening it was only to hear this year's fun would be cancelled. Utter disappointment.

I feel like the “conditions being too dry” is city lip service in order to have an excuse to cancel the event. If we can go camping and currently are allowed to have a fire this excuse seems unreasonable. Many other municipalities are going ahead with their events, which also makes Richmond’s cancellation unreasonable.

I guess you can add Richmond to the "unfun city" list.
