Letters: EVs drain electricity

A Richmond News reader believes increasing the use of electric vehicles "too fast" may contribute to electricity shortages in B.C.

Dear Editor,

Re: “Richmond EV owner ordered to unplug vehicle,” News, July 22; “There’s no free ride for EV drivers,” Letters, July 29.

It’s great to see the increasing number of electric vehicles, but let’s not get carried away.

They are forecasting electric shortages in many North American cities, including B.C. If we move from internal combustion to electric vehicles too fast, power outages will increase.

We simply don’t have the electric capacity to handle more electric vehicles while many people are installing air conditioners to handle climate change, even here in B.C.
