Dear Editor,
If we have to live with our existing tunnel for another eight to 10 years, we need much better policing during rush hour.
There are way too many jerks who think their time is more important than those patiently waiting in line.
Southbound, many people going east on Steveston stay in the left lane and cut into the tunnel line very late, blocking through traffic while they barge in.
Southbound traffic on No. 5 Road often comes through the Steveston intersection and turns into the businesses in the southeast corner, cutting into the lineup northbound on No. 5 Road.
A number of single-occupancy vehicles also drive all the way to the HOV lane and enter there.
Northbound through the tunnel many single-occupancy vehicles use the HOV lane daily and many more stay in the lineup until they see no police presence and then dart into the HOV lane.
We need daily police coverage of these problems before we start having serious road rage incidents.
If we don’t want to assign a constable to these issues, hire an auxiliary or other people to police these.
They’d easily make their wages back in the fines they would issue.
