Dear Editor,

News of an outbreak of COVID-19 on a mink farm in Abbotsford appears to suggest COVID-19 can be transmitted to rodents generally.

Richmond rats are in the news with city council considering banning rat bait.

I am all for the safe use of rat bait, but if COVID-19  is found in Richmond rats, we are going to need serious efforts to limit their population.

Why wait for the bad news, get moving on it now.

Editor’s note: BCCDC states, with the exception of farmed mink, COVID-19 does not appear to spread from contact with animals.
