Romania Country Bread has been transformed into a new pizza place.

Dear Editor,

As a young girl of four - being born in the Greenwood Internment in 1948 - my family were able to return to Steveston after serving what should have been one year, but was almost 10 years.

My mother’s father, Yoshizo Mukai and his wife, Iwa, were owners of the Mukai Confectionery, now the Rocanini Coffee Shop on Moncton and No.1 Road.

Mr. Steve Morishita, his wife Shirley and his brother, Mitch Morishita owned and operated Steveston Marine Grocery where the Romania Country Bread was located.

After the passing of Steve, known to us Japanese Canadian children as “Higesan” – “Mr. Mustache” - it was presumably taken over by the Romanian bakery.

Now, in my mid-seventies, another new business shall open and I know they shall do well, as the former owners have left endearing memories of laughter, kindness and overall love.
