A letter writer wants to city to be more pro-active during weather events.

Dear Editor,

Re: "'It's going to be a long-duration wind event': Bomb cyclone could impact Metro Vancouver for 24 hours"

With all the advance notice of the incoming bomb cyclone to hit most of the coastal areas of B.C.'s Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, the City of Richmond was virtually non pro-active.

Many of our main streets were still covered in leaves and debris untouched by a street sweeper or city crews to clean up problem areas ahead of the storm.

One only had to drive down the likes of No. 3 Road, Gilbert Road, No. 2 Road and the many cross streets and see rain water backed up over sidewalks, flooded streets and intersections.

It is like when we have snowfalls, by the time city worksyard gets moving, the damage is already done.

We need to be more prepared for these weather events before they happen so as to cut down on the damage.

We know that the grass grows in the spring and rain and snow happen in the fall and winter.

Re-allocate your work force to what is needed during these weather events and hopefully we are ready for something bigger in magnitude.
