Dear Editor,
We need a skytrain line linking downtown Richmond to downtown Surrey.
This would reduce car traffic along Highway 91 between Richmond and Delta/Surrey.
Less car traffic, less greenhouse gases and less greenhouse gases would mean B.C. and Canada can reach their goals for net zero emissions by 2050 and Canada would get on track with the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement.
I could see the line starting in downtown Richmond running along Westminster Highway to Highway 91, then along Highway 91 to Highway 17 in Delta, then along Highway 17 to 104 Avenue, then along 104 Avenue to Guildford Town Centre.
An alternative is to go along Highway 91A to McEwen Avenue, then along McEwen Avenue (to serve the Queensborough area) to the very end, then cross over Fraser Avenue to 104 Avenue in Surrey, then proceed along 104 Avenue to Guildford Town Centre.
Surrey is proposed to be a stop for the Vancouver to Seattle to Portland high speed rail.
A downtown Richmond to downtown Surrey skytrain would be a car free travel option to get from Richmond to Surrey to catch the bullet train.
