The Editor,
Just as I am not a big supporter of big fat bonuses for officers hired to do little more than a satisfactory job to begin with, I am not keen to say "Bravo" to politicians either for representing the views of the majority of their constituents candidly on ethical, moral and public safety issues.
However, on June 28, when I heard Mayor Malcolm Brodie speaking on Global TV, against licensing and subsidising a liquor bar in the new RCMP Headquarters, I felt compelled to salute him for his stand.
It is both good and right, and complements the new professional behavioural standards the Minister of Public Safety, Vic Toews, and the new RCMP Commissioner, Bob Paulson, are trying to enforce. The mayor's comments also inadvertently support MADD.
