The statue will simply depict a volleyball player in the abstract. It will not nor has it ever been intended to specifically depict Ned Mander or another specific person. The statue will not incorporate his high school volleyball number nor his facial features. No date has been set for its unveiling.

This generous donation meets the criteria of Richmond's public art gifting program as confirmed by an independent review committee. It will also complement the very popular, existing speed skater statue by the same artist at the oval. As well, the oval is designated as a national centre of excellence for volleyball through a partnership with Volleyball Canada and Volleyball BC.

Mayor Malcolm D. Brodie
