Share, help others less fortunate

The Editor, I am writing this letter as an appreciation to Richmond Shares for their incredible work for the less fortunate and for those more anxious about their tomorrow.

The Editor,

I am writing this letter as an appreciation to Richmond Shares for their incredible work for the less fortunate and for those more anxious about their tomorrow.

Richmond Shares, an organization under The Women's Resource Centre, facilitates a wide range of people like refugees, women coming out of transition houses, fire victims, single mothers, single fathers, seniors, and from personal familiarity, new immigrants.

These are the people who made a transition into a new country for my family a little less strenuous than usual.

But, unfortunately, the centre has only a few people available for the transportation of requested goods and this number keeps falling with increasing fuel prices.

Volunteering, I learned, does not have to be a beefy chap kind of job.

Instead, the little helping hands of those in the community can make much more of a difference than just a few muscular ones.

So this is why I encourage all those in this community whether physically young or those that still feel young, to sign up as a volunteer for the Richmond Shares at www.richmondshares.bc.ca or contact the coordinator of Richmond Shares, Laure McEwan at 604-279-7061.

Transporting of items is just one of the many ways this community centered organization can be supported. Richmond Shares is also open to donations via their website, like used appliances, outgrown baby items, used clothing and furniture that we would otherwise simply throw away.

Being fully aware of how bumpy the first landing can be and being able to anticipate the anxiety in the loss of earthly comforts, I ask everybody to sign up to volunteer at Richmond Shares.
