Derek Dang is proud to have served on Richmond City Council from 1996 to 2001. Having been re-elected from 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2011, Derek is seeking a City Council seat in 2014.
As a life long Richmond resident, Derek has been honored to be able to make a difference in the community he loves. His family includes his wife Margaret and children Natalie and Zachary. Both kids are in Richmond public schools and are thriving in this great community.
Richmond has changed and grown since I grew up here in the 1960's. We have almost four times as many people as we did back in the day!
The fine balance between providing planning success and livability issues is always at play. We have a large amount of agricultural land that has to be protected. We have to be mindful of providing the parks, programs, amenities and services that Richmond residents have come to expect.
Currently, I am Chair of the Community Safety Committee, and am Chair of the Minoru Facilities Building and Technical Committee. Committees that I sit on are Minoru Seniors Society, Richmond Heritage Commission, Richmond Intercultural Advisory Committee.
