Drop a pebble into a still pond and see the ripples it creates—a reaction to an action.

The same can be said for philanthropy within a community. Making an impact by way of a donation can lead to attracting others also wanting to affect the waters and make positive changes that benefit all.

So it has been with Green Light Group, a Richmond-based logistics company that started more than two decades ago with merely a single truck and a handful of clients. Today, it has grown to become an international provider serving not only Metro Vancouver but also clients well beyond B.C. And with that stature has come the role of responsibility to the community. That is why Green Light Group has pledged $100,000 towards Richmond Hospital Foundation’s Medical Imaging Centre Campaign.

“Green Light Group has been operating in Richmond for more than 25 years,” says company president James Xu. “I’m grateful for the successes we have achieved and feel that this is the opportune time to give back to the community—the community where I work and live.”

The commitment was inspired by fellow local entrepreneur Dan On, founder of Dan D Foods, who has previously made a significant donation to the hospital foundation, a portion of which is bringing in a second CT scanner to Richmond.

“His generosity helped us realize the significant role local businesses can play in supporting the community's health care needs,” says Geoff Millman, CEO of Green Light Group. “So, we decided Green Light Group would join Dan, and together, through our contributions, help ensure better access to quality health care for our employees, families, friends and the community.”

Xu and Millman were further motivated to give back as both have children who graduated from medical school in 2023.

The donation will aid in the expansion of the Milan and Maureen Ilich Medical Imaging Centre in the future Yurkovich Family Pavilion at Richmond Hospital. It will help equip the facility by doubling tools to enable timely and enhanced access for patients. Estimates indicate, that when up and running, the imaging centre will accommodate more than 200,000 patient visits annually. The donations will also help establish a satellite medical imaging centre in the hospital’s new emergency department.

Green Light Group’s commitment is in keeping with the company’s four core principles: integrity, excellence, innovation and partnership.

“We hope our employees will feel proud and inspired to be a part of this meaningful donation,” says Tina Chun, Green Light Group’s COO. “And if we can help encourage other businesses to do the same and make a donation towards health care in Richmond, we would be more than pleased.”

The goal of the Richmond Hospital Foundation’s Medical Imaging Centre Campaign was to raise $25 million to fund technologies in the new, expanded Milan and Maureen Ilich Medical Imaging Centre in the future Yurkovich Family Pavilion—the new acute care tower at Richmond Hospital.
