Freezing temperatures and snow are in the forecast for Richmond later this week.
While mild sleet was seen in the city early Monday morning, the forecast calls for snow and a drop in temperature to -11C by Thursday, according to Richmond's city centre Weatherhood station.
The sun is expected to make an appearance on Friday in city centre, but temperatures will likely drop to this week's lowest of -17C before snow resumes on Saturday with temperatures hitting a high of -5C and a low of -10C.
Steveston Village and Terra Nova are expected to be the coldest areas of the city with a high of -9C and a low of -18C on Friday.
The City of Richmond announced they have prepared three thousand tonnes of salt and almost 150,000 litres of brine in hopes of avoiding the same snowstorm issues in 2022.
A special weather statement was issued by Environment Canada on Monday morning warning of a "wintry mix" of weather for cities across Metro Vancouver.
There is an expected "series of storms" that will bring winter conditions along the B.C. coast today through Tuesday.
Environment Canada's statement addresses potential snow in some areas will reach sea level along the south coast, but with "mild air moving into the region" the snow will transition into rain by Monday afternoon.
However, temperatures are expected to continue to drop throughout the week until snow makes its return on Thursday.
