A new helicopter maintenance, repair and overhaul facility, which works on both civilian and defense craft, has received authorization to operate from Transport Canada.
Before StandardAero’s 24,000-sq-ft facility opened on Nov. 14, the different types of repair and maintenance work had to be completed at separate locations.
But the new location has facilities for machining, cleaning, painting and non-destructive testing — an analysis technique to study material or system properties — for different types of aircraft engines and components, which means that work can be done at one location.
Andy Wong, Richmond’s general manager of StandardAero, told the Richmond News in an email that the “Richmond facility is responsible for serving civilian and defense customers of the type worldwide, including the Canadian Forces,” adding that their business will continue to grow and “adapt alongside the diverse helicopter market.”
“StandardAero looks forward to meeting the growing demands of the market through dedicated resources and the potential for additional capabilities in the future.”
In a media release, Claus Eisenschmid, vice-president and general manager at StandardAero, said they are grateful to their customers and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners for their “immense support” and are working to provide “highly efficient centers of excellence.”
The new shop can be found at 20699 Westminster Hwy – a few minutes’ drive from their former Richmond locations.
According to StandardAero’s website, they have “become one of the world aerospace industry’s largest independent maintenance, repair and overhaul providers” and they have operations around the world.
