Police issued 753 traffic tickets in Richmond last month, with 729 being Motor Vehicle Act violations.

Richmond RCMP's latest round-up of traffic enforcement in June shows numbers consistent with the previous month, with a slight increase in speeding tickets and some decreases in high-risk driving behaviours.

A total of 270 speeding tickets were issued, almost five per cent less than May.

However, only 10 tickets were issued in June for impaired driving, a 61 per cent decrease from May. The combined total of tickets issued for intersection and moving infractions, at 40 and 55 respectively, was 25 per cent less than last month.

Moving infractions include unsafe lane changes and unsafe passing.

Distracted driving tickets dropped from 96 in May to 92.

The number of tickets issued for driver's licence infractions remained the same at 150. Police also issued 15 tickets for seatbelt violations, 119 for vehicle-related infractions and 16 for other infractions.

High-collision zones identified by police are:

  • No. 4 Road and Steveston Highway
  • Grant McConachie Way and Russ Baker Way
  • Bridgeport Road and Great Canadian Way
  • Bridgeport Road and Sea Island Way

Richmond RCMP are conducting enhanced enforcement along Highway 91 in July, in addition to a summer impaired driving enforcement campaign in July and August.
