The mightiest sockeye ever to navigate the Fraser River, Sammy the Salmon measures up as the biggest salmon on record: From the top of his cap to the tip of his tail, Sammy is a whopping 7’2” long! You can see Sammy on July 1 atop the Spirit of Steveston float in the annual Steveston Salmon Festival parade. When not ushering his colleagues upriver and teaching the next generation to swim downstream, Sammy spends his spare time at Steveston Community Centre, shooting pool or “schooling” local kids in foosball.
