Care packages created by Richmond high school students handed out to DTES residents

Marketing students have been fundraising this school year.

A group of J.N Burnett secondary students were handing out care packages on the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver on Friday.

The marketing students have been working all year running a school store to raise funds. They then used the profits to buy materials and handmake 100 care packages.

These packages included mittens, neck warmers, hats, non-perishable food, bottled water and hygiene products.

Kana Chan, a J.N. Burnett marketing student, said the recipients in the DTES were appreciative of their support, especially given the weather conditions.

“The weather was very cold and even just being out there for around two hours made our hands and feet freeze, making it hard to imagine what it must be like for those living outside,” Chan said.

She said their goal is to support the community “in meaningful ways,” especially during harder times such as colder month.
